Our journey together has been nothing short of remarkable, and I am excited to share with you the latest updates on our projects, programs, awards, and new initiatives. 

As we continue to honor and protect our Madre Tierra, we remain committed to making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. Let's keep celebrating and working together for a brighter future!

1. Earth Day Extravaganza: Corazón Latino's Celebrations of our Madre Tierra Across Arizona, Puerto Rico, Texas, and the Metaverse 🌳

What's new: This year, Corazón Latino is participating in a series of heartwarming events across Arizona, Puerto Rico, Texas, and the Metaverse to celebrate Earth Day and honor our Madre Tierra. Events include: 

  • Tucson Mariachi Festival (04/21), we will include an COVID-19 vaccination unit

  • Festival de Banda in Phoenix (04/22), we will include a COVID-19 vaccination unit

  • Puerto Volunteer Day in El Yunque National Forest with The Mission Continues 

  • Conversation in the Metaverse (05/04) featuring Frances Colón, Tom Furness, and Mustafa Ali in partnership with our sister organization Teatro del Corazón | Heart Theatre

Why it matters: These events aim to ignite passion and love for our Madre Tierra while raising awareness about environmental conservation in the hearts of Latino communities.

The big picture: Embracing our cultural heritage and love for our Madre Tierra, Earth Day celebrations like these are part of a growing global movement that empowers diverse communities to care for our planet.

2. Health & Sports: Corazón Latino's Action-Packed Events Bring Communities Together 🏃🏽‍♂️

What's new: Corazón Latino has recently hosted several health and sports events, including: 

  • In partnership with Orlegi Sports, we joined Club Santos Laguna's Guerrero de Corazón program at Lennox Academy in Los Angeles (03/22), with Atlas FC and Teletón USA, we helped organize a gathering with children with diverse abilities and their families in San Antonio, TX (03/24) 

  • We also participated in the Carnaval Miami Soccer 5v5 with the Juntos Sí Podemos COVID-19 vaccination efforts (04/15). 

These events combined the joy of sports with community empowerment and health initiatives, creating unforgettable experiences for everyone involved.

Why it matters: Through these events, Corazón Latino aims to inspire a love for sports, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen community bonds while celebrating our Latino heritage.

The big picture: The fusion of health and sports with our vibrant cultural traditions allows us to create unique events that resonate deeply with our communities, fostering connections and inspiring positive change.

By the numbers: Thousands  of participants across Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Miami enjoyed these action-packed events, benefitting from health initiatives, such as the Juntos Sí Podemos vaccination effort, while celebrating our shared Latino roots.

How it works: Each event combined sports activities with health and wellness initiatives, providing an opportunity for our communities to learn about and adopt healthy habits in a fun and engaging atmosphere.

Between the lines: By uniting our love for sports with a focus on health and wellness, Corazón Latino is creating an environment that encourages physical activity, mental wellbeing, and a sense of belonging within our communities.

What's next: On September 18th, the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team will celebrate conservation and Hispanic Heritage Month with a special event that brings our community together in a spirit of unity and environmental stewardship. 3. A Masterclass in Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Empowering Stories 🎬

What's new: In collaboration with the USDA Forest Service, Corazón Latino is producing a captivating short film that weaves personal stories with Environmental Justice and DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) principles.

Why it matters: This powerful film aims to create a deeper understanding of the connections between our communities and our Madre Tierra, fostering empathy and inspiring change.

The big picture: Storytelling is a powerful way to unite people, raise awareness, and promote action in the pursuit of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

By the numbers: The film, set to be released in Fall/Winter 2023, will reach countless viewers, sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring positive change.

How it works: By showcasing real-life experiences and the impact of Environmental Justice and DEIA principles, the film will help viewers connect with these essential topics on a personal level.

Between the lines: This film will remind us that our diverse perspectives and experiences enrich our understanding of the world and our relationship with Madre Tierra.

What's next: In the coming months, we will continue to work closely with the USDA Forest Service and other partners including Teatro del Corazón | Heart Theatre and the Virtual World Society to bring this powerful film to life, amplifying voices and inspiring change.

4. Bilingual Conservation Education Triumphs in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

What's new: Corazón Latino's project to develop a bilingual conservation curriculum around El Yunque National Forest has been a resounding success, leading to a new cooperative agreement for 2023.

Why it matters: This innovative educational program empowers Puerto Rican students to connect with and protect our planet, fostering a love for conservation and promoting environmental stewardship.

By the numbers: Our hard work resulted in seven nominations for the 2023 Reed Awards and a win for Grassroots Non-Profit of the Year, as well as the prestigious Golden Pine Cone Award from the USDA Forest Service.

6. Introducing A Tempo String Orchestra & Corazones Rítmicos: Music to Transform Lives, Led by Maestro Dietrich Paredes 🎵

What's new: In partnership with Heart Theatre | Teatro del Corazón and A Tempo Music Academy, and under the leadership of world-renowned violinist, conductor, and educator Maestro Dietrich Paredes, we are launching a groundbreaking initiative to empower low-income, at-risk youth in the Washington DC area through music education, modeled after the El Sistema program in Venezuela.

Why it matters: The A Tempo String Orchestra and Corazones Rítmicos program, guided by Maestro Paredes' expertise and passion, will provide life-changing opportunities for young people to develop their talents, build confidence, and foster unity, resilience, and personal growth.

Maestro Dietrich Paredes' accomplishments: Maestro Dietrich Paredes is an internationally acclaimed conductor, violinist, and music educator, known for his dedication to empowering children and youth through music. A disciple of the legendary Maestro José Antonio Abreu, founder of Venezuela's renowned El Sistema, Paredes has led and conducted orchestras around the world, including the Australia Youth Orchestra, Colburn Youth Orchestra in Los Angeles, Orchestra Giuvenile Italiana, Orchestra Geraçao Portugal, and Barrat Due Youth Orchestra Norway. His passion and commitment to creating transformative musical experiences have inspired countless young musicians, reflecting his belief in the power of music to unite communities and foster social development.

🦆 7) Give A Duck Campaign: Uniting Jeep & Off-Road SUV Owners for Mother Earth 🌿

What's new: Jeep and off-road SUV owners are coming together for a great cause – the Give A Duck campaign. This initiative aims to unite outdoor enthusiasts in a collective effort to preserve our public lands and cherish our Madre Tierra.

Why it matters: By participating in the Give A Duck campaign, you're not only enjoying the spirit of adventure but also contributing to the long-term health of our natural environment. Together, we can make a difference in protecting our public lands for future generations.

How it works: Embrace the camaraderie of the Jeep Ducking movement and take these steps to get involved:
