The Senate has voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the next United States Supreme Court justice.
Felipe Benitez, Executive Director and Founder of Corazón Latino, issued the following statement:
“Today marks a transformational moment in our nation’s history: the first Black female justice has been confirmed to the Supreme Court, making us a stronger and better nation. As a result of her perseverance, Judge Jackson has shattered the glass ceiling and redefined our nation’s history.
“Her story is not just of a qualified jurist, it’s the personal history of a woman who, against the odds, epitomizes the American dream. She is also a role model for all who dream of rising to the top, despite challenges. As a Black woman, she fought the good fight to get where she is now, but has done so with kindness, compassion, and integrity.
“We are inspired by Judge Jackson and take hope in what she represents to all of us who have also struggled with belonging in institutions and careers that have long restricted people of color, and who have felt the immense weight of discrimination. Judge Jackson reminds us that even when our surroundings fail us, our dreams are possible.”
