Washington D.C. - The Latino environmental organization Corazón Latino partners with blockchain platform Eluv.io to launch “Milagritos,” a Web3 experience offering limited-edition NFTs, with a free live stream featuring Mexican recording artist Nicho Hinojosa on Earth Day. Those streaming the performance will be eligible to participate in giveaways.
Corazón Latino leads the way with being one of the earliest adopters in the NGO space of NFTs, blockchain, and cryptocurrency. They join a growing list of celebrities, sports teams, and brands releasing NFTs. Corazón Latino is the first U.S. Latino environmental justice organization to release an NFT collection.
The proceeds from the sales of the Milagritos NFT drop will be invested in helping support Corazón Latino’s work in conservation, environmental justice, food security, health & nature, and civic engagement.
“Yet again Corazon Latino is at the vanguard of emerging technology. Our goal with releasing our NFT collection is to use the proceeds to directly benefit our work from Puerto Rico to the Sonoran Desert.” said Felipe Benítez, Executive Director of Corazón Latino.
“This partnership with Eluv.io, Nicho Hinojosa, and the launch of Milagritos, provides us a totally new way to do that. There’s almost nothing more important to us than finding new ways of cultivating stewards of our Mother Earth. And we are always up for trying something new and different,” said Benítez.
“I am a huge Corazón Latino fan. As technical advisor for the organization and cofounder of its sister organization,Teatro del Corazón, I know Felipe and his team bring the highest level of passion and care to everything they do.” said Stacy Whittle, Senior Technology Advisor for Corazón Latino.
“This is why the organization is a perfect vehicle to introduce myriad audiences to a simple Web3 experience that will produce a live streamed concert and NFT event, and provide everyone the opportunity to own a piece of digital art that supports their work. And Eluv.io’s technology is eco-friendly and highly energy efficient both in the ways it manages media and uses blockchain technology.” said Whittle.
Karina Martinez, Communications Director for the organization added, “Our goals with our programs have always remained the same: reconnecting communities of color to Mother Earth. This partnership with Eluv.io, and the launch of ‘Milagritos,’ is so exciting. We are proud to showcase Latino culture through the release of the Milagritos NFTs. The proceeds will help support CL's mission and programs.”
