“Today is a historic day in the path toward equity, inclusion, and accessibility to our nation’s public lands for all the people in our country”
Statement from Corazón Latino on the confirmation of Rep. Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior
Washington, D.C., March 15, 2021 – Felipe Benítez, Executive Director of Corazón Latino, a national environmental justice and conservation organization with a strong presence in the Northeast, Southwest and in Puerto Rico, issued the following statement on the confirmation of Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior:
“Today is a historic day toward equity, inclusion, and accessibility to our nation’s public lands for all the people in our country. It is an especially great day also for Native American communities, communities of color, and allies.
“Deb Haaland is not only uniquely qualified to lead an agency that manages, protects, and cares for our nation’s most precious natural treasures and public lands, she also brings a stellar bipartisan record on working towards the protection and conservation of critical cultural sites, wildlife, oceans, rivers, lakes, and streams through deep community engagement, and by relying on science.
“Her leadership will also foster the creation and implementation of policies that will boost economic development through green and outdoor recreation jobs while protecting our Mother Earth.
“To all our U.S. Senators that voted in favor of Deb Haaland’s confirmation: Thank you for supporting diversity, inclusion, and justice in our nation’s public lands.”
