Statement from Felipe Benitez, Executive Director & Founder of Corazón Latino, on President Biden's Executive Order on Environmental Justice for All
"Today, we celebrate a groundbreaking victory for families and communities that have long suffered the consequences of environmental injustice. President Biden's executive order sends a clear message that our voices have been heard and that change is on the horizon," said Felipe Benitez, Executive Director & Founder of Corazón Latino.
The Biden-Harris administration's commitment to revitalizing our nation's dedication to environmental justice is a testament to their understanding of the urgency for protecting the health and well-being of all people, regardless of race, background, income, ability, Tribal affiliation, or zip code. This executive order aims to confront longstanding environmental injustices and inequities, providing cleaner air and water, reduced health risks, and better access to green spaces, safe and affordable housing, and clean transportation for families across the nation.
With this historic action, President Biden acknowledges the importance of meaningful community engagement, collaboration with Tribal nations, and the need for a coordinated strategy to address environmental justice data and research gaps. The executive order also highlights the significance of interagency coordination and increased accountability and transparency in federal environmental justice policy.
As we celebrate Earth Week, Corazón Latino stands with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and the rest of the administration in their dedication to creating a more just and equitable future for all. We remain committed to supporting these efforts as they ensure that families in every corner of our nation can live in safe, healthy, and thriving environments.
