Grammy Award-Winning Ozomatli team up with Corazón Latino and Hip Hop Caucus for Soy Latino, Sí Voto Get Out the Vote Concert
With nearly 32 million eligible Latino voters – 13 percent of eligible voters in the United States – groups connect with climate justice voters via music, culture
Miami, Florida – Corazón Latino and Hip Hop Caucus have partnered with LA-based Latino urban, hip-hop and rock band Ozomatli to inspire and engage Latino voters across the nation – and in key swing states – to get out the vote via their respective Soy Latino, Sí Voto and Respect My Vote! campaigns. The band is a past Grammy award winner for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album and Best Alternative Music Album.
This year, nearly 32 million eligible Latino voters – 13 percent of eligible voters in the United States – could make a significant impact on the outcome of the election. If engaged equitably with inclusive language and cultural appeal on the issues they care about most, Latinos will be more likely to take their all-important voices and votes to the ballot box. Ozomatli will be going LIVE on YouTube this Sunday at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT and on Facebook via Corazón Latino, Hip Hop Caucus, and Defend Our Future.
“Ozomatli takes firm stances on various social justice issues. Our work focuses on giving voice to Latino culture, opportunity to children, fighting for workers’ rights, and promoting global unity and peace amongst people, cultures and nations,” said Raul Pacheco, Ozomatli’s lead vocals and guitar player.
“We're honored to partner with Ozomatli, whose internationally renowned music, will help us inspire and encourage U.S. Latino voters to exercise their right to vote and make their voices heard. We must all vote with our families and our Madre Tierra in mind,” said Felipe Benitez, Executive Director of Corazón Latino, a national non-profit organization that seeks to generate social, environmental, and conservation initiatives that foster natural resource stewardship.
“We are pleased to partner with Ozomatli and Corazón Latino to get out the vote. Our communities will raise our voices and flex our power at the polls on November 3rd because democracy is truly on the ballot in this election. Ozomatli’s music and social justice leadership is legendary and together we will ensure that our votes for a just and sustainable world are respected,” said Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., President and Founder of Hip Hop Caucus, a national non-profit, nonpartisan organization that inspires young people to participate in elections, policymaking and service projects.
In early October, Corazón Latino launched its bilingual Soy Latino, Sí Voto peer-to-peer online civic engagement campaign with the goal to connect with 50,000 voters leading up to Election Day, while helping communities to overcome in-person voting challenges brought about by the global pandemic. The campaign, hyper-focused in Arizona, Florida, Puerto Rico, now expanding engagement in Michigan, hits on issues that affect Latino communities in the United States, including climate justice and environmental protection.
