Corazón Latino’s Statement on the Mesa, AZ Shooting
(PHOENIX, AZ) On Friday, October 17th, a group of families enjoying a pleasant evening at a food truck event in Mesa, Arizona were fired upon while dining near Guadalupe Road. Several members of our community were injured, including four children. Tragically, a one-year old baby lost his life hours later. The perpetrators have not been brought to justice. Felipe Benítez, Executive Director of Corazón Latino, a non-profit organization working in Arizona and at the national level to generate social services, environmental, and conservation initiatives that foster natural resource stewardship, issued the following statement:
“First, we express our deepest condolences and offer prayers to the family and friends of the little angel whose life was tragically taken by this egregious, senseless act of violence. We also express our solidarity and support to those who were hurt physically and emotionally attacked during this incident. Nuestro corazón está con ustedes – our heart is with you. This violence toward our community needs to stop. Our community is strong and we will come together and support these families while they grieve.”
