Biden Administration Continues Historic Environmental Actions
President Biden announced historic land and water conservation protections at the White House Conservation in Action Summit.
Felipe Benitez, Executive Director and Founder of Corazón Latino, issued the following statement:
“By being good stewards of the earth, we honor our ancestors and protect the gifts that Madre Tierra provides for future generations. We were greatly honored to have witnessed the designation of two new national monuments: Avi Kwa Ame in Nevada and Castner Range in Texas. Avi Kwa Ame, known as "Spirit of the Mountain," uniquely represents the ongoing relationship between Native American tribes and the land they have inhabited for generations, promoting greater respect and understanding of their beliefs and traditions. We hope these new designations help to foster our sacred connection with our lands while also protecting them from desecration while also fortifying their ecosystems.
“Biden also announced the protection of all U.S. waters around the Pacific Remote Islands as part of the mission to conserve and restore lands and waters across the nation. By protecting these waters, this administration is ensuring the preservation of critical marine ecosystems and promoting biodiversity conservation.
“These actions are a testament to President Biden's commitment to climate and environmental sustainability and will contribute towards our ambitious land and water conservation agenda. More broadly, these efforts enable us to address climate change and ensure a more sustainable and resilient future for our planet.
“We are proud to have shared this treasured moment with environmental advocates from across the country. We know that if we continue to honor and respect our Madre Tierra, she will continue to provide for us.”
