Soy Latino, Sí Voto campaign fights back against fake news with inspiring new animated video produced by legendary cartoonist, Trino
Mexican cartoonist (monero) José Trinidad 'Trino' Camacho joins the Soy Latino Sí Voto campaign alongside award-winning Chicano cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz.
Washington, DC – With thirteen days until election day, the Soy Latino, Sí Voto (SLSV) get out the vote campaign is fighting back against disinformation in Latino communities with a short animated video to ignite, unite, and inspire people to vote. SLSV is a popular voter engagement campaign co-led by Corazón Latino and EcoMadres.
Trino's cartoons speak to Latino voters' culture, traditions, and idiosyncrasies. His art continues to have massive appeal to Latinos. Throughout his career, Trino has used his voice and art to champion myriad social causes. It was only natural that his creativity and talent be used to raise awareness about election disinformation and motivate people to vote.

"SLSV targets the 35 million Latinos across the U.S. eligible to vote. As one of the greatest cultural ambassadors, Trino is helping us reach Latinos in a culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate way. Our first step is to dispel the notion that our votes don't count," said Felipe Benitez, Founding Executive Director, Corazón Latino.
Civic engagement is key to a functioning democracy. Latinos, like many other population groups, have been inundated with disinformation about voting. The SLSV campaign creates a steady stream of content including videos, cartoons, and articles so communities have the resources they need to make informed decisions.
“The goal of this campaign is to build connections and trust within Latino communities to counter disinformation. Our objectives are to educate and empower communities of color. Voting is the most patriotic thing one can do for their families,“ said Carolina Peña, Program Manager, EcoMadres.
"I am so proud to be part of this campaign. As an artist, we have the ability to inspire people to vote using strong emotions. As human beings, we love the power of stories, so what better way to motivate my community than through a short, funny, and powerful video? We must create awareness of how bad fake news is, but in a compelling way," said Trino.
