1 Big Thing: Earth Week — Honoring our Madre Tierra 🌳
We are celebrating Earth Week in a big way with online and in-person events.
Big picture: Corazón Latino will host/co-host celebrations in seven states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
In partnership with EDF and Climate Power, we will co-host a town hall (TV and online ) with Univision Arizona to discuss ways we all can help heal our planet while creating jobs and economic prosperity.
We will support 6-year-old conservation champion Liam López-Wagner in his #AmigosforMonarch efforts to distribute more than 500 milkweed seed kits with friends and family to help start monarch-friendly gardens in Michigan. 🦋
Other highlights include: the launch of a pollinator garden honoring Adam Toledo in Chicago’s Little Village; a river clean up campaign in Phoenix; and forest therapy walks in West Virginia’s Cacapon State Park.
What's next: See the full list of events here.
2. Bicicletadas in Tucson 🚴
We recently launched a partnership with Familias Unidas Ganando Accesibilidad (FUGA) in Tucson, AZ.
Why it matters: FUGA is a grassroots organization focused on reclaiming urban public and green spaces and working towards mobility justice.
On February 26, we supported their first bike ride after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event brought together more than 50 members of the community.
Together we celebrated César Chávez’s birthday by riding and volunteering in a park clean up. We were joined by Mayor Regina Romero and key council members.
What's next: If you are in Southern Arizona, meet us the last Friday of every month to reclaim our urban spaces, connect with nature, and have fun!
3. Online Town Hall: 21st Century Latino Agenda Prioritizes Climate Action
What’s new: In early March, we co-hosted with LULAC, EDF, and other partners an online town hall broadcast moderated by Telemundo’s Vannessa Hauc. Guests included:
Dr. Cecilia Martinez, Senior Director for Environmental Justice of the White House Council on Environmental Quality
Tomás Carbonell, Environmental Protection Agency
Dr. Gerald Torres, Yale School of the Environment
Why it matters: The Biden-Harris administration has made Environmental Justice and investment in fighting climate change while generating jobs top priorities for the federal government.

4. Helping Build Resilience in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
We continue to work hard on the restoration of the Río Sabana Recreation Area in El Yunque National Forest.
The project includes trail work, facilities maintenance, and the creation of the first certfied forest therapy train in the archipelago.
The work is conducted in partnership with residents of the Municipality of Naguabo, USDA Forest Service, The Mission Continues, National Forest Foundation, and Forest Bathing Puerto Rico, among others.
Go deeper: As part of Hispanic Access Foundation’s first ever Latino Advocacy Week, Corazón Latino hosted an online conversation to discuss the outstanding work being implemented in the northeastern region of the archipelago.
What's next: Our team, in partnership with University of Puerto Rico students, will host various citizen science activities in Fajardo and Luquillo as part of this year’s City Nature Challenge.
